The Maldon District offers a full calendar of entertainment to suit all interests and budgets with a quality event to attend whatever time of year you decide to visit, often staged in quirky venues that are sure to make your experience unique and memorable. Watch our annual firework display set against the spectacular backdrop of traditional Thames Barges, or a popular drama performed in a tractor shed. Dance the night away in a WWI aerodrome hanger, listen to a world-class choir perform in an historic chapel, or camp like a castaway on beautiful Northey Island. Colourful regattas, family fun, beer festivals, country shows, music, culture, the inspiring Saltmarsh 75 endurance challenge, and of course, the wacky, internationally renowned Mud Race, all have their home here!

Advance tickets for the Blackwater Country Show are now on sale. Have-a-go country pursuits in one place such as archery, canoeing and kayaking, clay shooting, fishing and this year Ultimate UK frisbee! Meet local makers selling their original, handmade range of textiles, ceramics, canal art, sculptures, jewellery and paintings.
There will be fourteen gardens to explore during Maldon Open Gardens, which include herbaceous borders, cottage gardens, wildlife ponds, unusual planting, perennials, ornamental trees and more. Beginning at All Saints Church, the route takes you through various gardens including the Friary Walled Garden and the U3A Community Garden.

There will be hundreds of military vehicles across all eras - from push bikes to massive trucks that even make the tanks look small! The tanks and armoured vehicles will be taking part in the awesome and well-renowned vehicle parades. Purchase tickets for the event at the TICs or you can purchase your tickets online.

Eisenstein's classic film drama about the 1905 Russian Revolution, when the crew of Potemkin mutinied against their officers. The showing will be given a live organ accompaniment by Laurence Lyndon-Jones of Chelmsford Cathedral.

Maldon Festival - Mussorgsky by Christopher Weston

Christopher Weston plays Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition.' When his close friend, the artist Viktor Hartmann died, Mussorgsky was heartbroken and later at an exhibition of Hartmann's works, he was inspired to write these pieces.

This is the first visit by the fabulous Stanford String Quartet to the festival since 2010. The quartet will be performing Mozart: Hunt Quartet in Bb, K458, Beethoven: C minor Quartet, Op.18 no. 4, and Borodin: Quartet No.2 in D major.

Gilbert and Sullivan's Trial by Jury featured in the first Maldon Festival in 2008. We are reviving the production for this tenth anniversary season. It features soloists from City Lit Opera, accompanied by the orchestra of Hand Made Opera.

Maldon Festival - Bach's B Minor Mass

The Choir of St Mary's with Pegasus Baroque Orchestra will close this year's festival with Bach's mighty B Minor Mass. Bach composed the work throughout his career and finished it in the year before his death in 1749.
