We have created the Maldon District Tourism Group on Facebook to provide a virtual space for all local businesses, particularly those involved in tourism, heritage and leisure as well as those who offer a visitor experience.

The aim of the group is to provide you with a place to work together, get support or ask us questions, receive updates on things like business support and promotional campaigns that you can get involved in around the District, as well as a general place to discuss any ideas you have.

Our events page is one of the most popular pages on our website, and includes events that cover the Maldon District. Events include fairs, gigs, talks, sport events, quiz nights, country shows, sales, group meetings, pantomimes, carnivals, open gardens and more.

Submit your event to us online and your event will be added onto our website, and included on our printed events list which is available at the Maldon Visitor Information Centre, in the Town Hall.

Visit England are providing the latest national guidance and support for tourism and events businesses at this very challenging time. They are feeding industry concerns to Government via the Tourism Industry Emergency Response Group and will be sharing practical advice as soon as it becomes available, publishing the latest announcements and industry information on thier dedicated COVID-19 page.

Local COVID Restrictions

From Wednesday 16 Decmber, local restrictions will apply in your area replacing the national restrictions.

The new measures will apply across the Maldon District Council authority area and is currently set at Tier 3 or 'Very alert level'.

Tier 3: Very High alert

  • Hospitality settings such as bars (including shisha bars), pubs, cafes, restaurants, and social clubs must close except for takeaway, delivery and click and collect services. This includes restaurants and bars within hotels or member’s clubs.

  • Businesses and venues selling alcohol for consumption off the premises can continue to do so as long as this is through takeaway, delivery service, click-and-collect or drive-through.

  • Food or alcohol purchased from a hospitality premises via takeaway or click-and-collect may not be consumed on any part of that premises, including beer gardens, as well as adjacent seating to the premises.

  • Businesses must not provide shared smoking equipment for use on the premises.

Self-Employment Income Support Scheme - the Government has announced it is increasing support through the third instalment of the UK-wide Self-Employment Income Support Scheme, people will receive 80% of their average trading profits for November.

The claims window is also being brought forward from 14 December to 30 November. New guidance on how to claim is due to be published shortly.

Other financial support available to self-employed people who are getting less work due to coronavirus has been updated in the guidance including:

  • Test and Trace Support Payment
  • New Style Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • New Style Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
  • Universal Credit
  • Pension Credit

Loan schemes application deadlines extended to 31 January 2021

The application deadlines for the following schemes have been extended until 31 January 2021:

Extension of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme is being extended until December 2020. The current guidance on GOV.UK is due to be updated shortly and will include the rules relating to the extension and when you will be able to claim.
