The Play Ship in the Valley in Prom Park

Promenade Park is the Maldon District's most popular park and has undergone a major refurbishment in recent years. You can spend all day here, with something to do for all the family. Along with the Maldon Splash Park and the beach huts there is a large ornamental, a model boating and crabbing lake, three large sand pits, Skateboard ramps and a large BMX area.

Maldon Splash Park

Splash Park in Prom Park

Unfortunately the Splash Park will not be open this year and we are currently hoping to return for the 2021 season.

This fantastic children's water park, located in the centre of Promenade Park, has become a staple of many family weekends and has become extremely popular with both big and small kids! The Splash Park is weather dependent so please check opening times and weather before setting out. You can do this by following us on social media at the bottom of the page!

Beach Huts

Beach Huts in Prom Park

Unfortunately the Beach Huts will not be open this year and we are currently hoping to return for the 2021 season.

With eight modern beach huts available for hire all year round and a prime location next to the Splash Park... you can be right in the middle of the action! Huts include a plug socket, internal lighting, a cupboard and deckchairs. Thinking of coming with friends? Why not book a hut between you and have a base for the day?

Art & Performances

The Artist is in, please ring the bell

The Maldon District has a number of galleries showcasing different forms of visual art, from professional to amateur work, often inspired by the unique landscape and history of the district. Art exhibitions are regularly held in the Maeldune Heritage Centre and local village halls.

The Burnham-on-Crouch Art Trail and the Maldon Art Trail take place over the summer period. Going from strength to strength each year, a wide range of local artists display in venues in and around the high streets of Burnham-on-Crouch and Maldon. Artists are inspired by the big skies and unique light of the East Essex Coast and produce a range of media including ceramic, glass, sculpture, oils and watercolour.

The 'Tractor Shed' is the permanent home for one of our many highly regarded local amateur groups who put on a wide range of plays and shows. Touring theatre companies visit the Maldon District regularly and during the summer, you may wish to watch outdoor performances in the amphitheatre in Promenade Park.

Music & Dance Events

The Maldon District is home to a multitude of regular musical performances, gigs, dance clubs and dance evenings. The music programme includes regular concerts, from folk and jazz, to choral and classical, along with live gigs, open mic nights and tribute bands. If you're looking for intimate music nights, macTheatre holds regular gigs throughout the year from a variety of high calibre performers.

Learn different styles of dance and choreography by joining one of the local dance clubs. You can learn sequence dancing, Swing Jive, morris dancing and more. If you don't have the time to commit to regular meetings, there are also frequent dance evenings where you can strut your stuff all night long to live music.
Shut Heath Wood
From islands, woods and meadows, to shell banks, lakes and marshes, the Saltmarsh Coast is home to a wide range of diverse habitats. The Maldon District has more than ten nature reserves and most are located along its coastline. The district also has eight Sites of Special Scientific Interest and three Ramsar Wetlands of International Importance. Many of the nature reserves are managed by the Essex Wildlife Trust, the RSPB manage Old Hall Marshes in Tollesbury, as well as Wallasea Island, and Northey Island is owned by the National Trust. These nature reserves are ideal for walkers, wildlife enthusiasts, or anyone who wants to experience the diverse habitats of the Maldon District.

Independent Retail

The Maldon District is home to a great variety of independent shops that have their own appeal and character. In the towns of Maldon and Burnham-on-Crouch, there is an eclectic mix of specialist stores and independent retailers that sell everything from local delicacies and souvenirs, to antiques, clothes and hardware. Among these local shops, you will also find popular chain stores and banks, but these certainly do not overshadow the independent flavour of the Maldon District.

Experience our gastro menu by visiting our independent restaurants, cafés and tea rooms. You can also visit local markets in the district for excellent fresh produce, and a variety of other items. The Burnham-on-Crouch Farmer's market is certainly a highlight of the month, where a range of producers bring their fresh produce directly to the public. Check out our local page for more information about market days.
