The Play Ship in the Valley in Prom Park

Promenade Park is the Maldon District's most popular park and has undergone a major refurbishment in recent years. You can spend all day here, with something to do for all the family. Along with the Maldon Splash Park and the beach huts there is a large ornamental, a model boating and crabbing lake, three large sand pits, Skateboard ramps and a large BMX area.

Splash Park in Prom Park

This fantastic children's water park, located in the Valley in the centre of the Promenade Park, was opened in 2006 and has been extremely popular ever since. The Splash Park is dependent on the weather, so please check opening times and weather before setting out. You can do this by following us on twitter @MaldonTIC or by contacting the Maldon Tourist Information Centre.

Beach Huts in Prom Park
In 2015, eight brand new beach huts were officially opened and became available for hire all year round. Located in the valley, next to the Splash Park and Galleon, you can be right in the middle of the action. Huts include a plug socket, internal lighting, a cupboard and deckchairs. Thinking of coming with friends? Why not book a hut between you and have a base for the day?

The Artist is in, please ring the bell

The Maldon District has a number of galleries showcasing different forms of visual art, from professional to amateur work, often inspired by the unique landscape and history of the district. Art exhibitions are regularly held in the Maeldune Heritage Centre and local village halls.

The Burnham-on-Crouch Art Trail and the Maldon Art Trail take place over the summer period. Going from strength to strength each year, a wide range of local artists display in venues in and around the high streets of Burnham-on-Crouch and Maldon. Artists are inspired by the big skies and unique light of the East Essex Coast and produce a range of media including ceramic, glass, sculpture, oils and watercolour.

The 'Tractor Shed' is the permanent home for one of our many highly regarded local amateur groups who put on a wide range of plays and shows. Touring theatre companies visit the Maldon District regularly and during the summer, you may wish to watch outdoor performances in the amphitheatre in Promenade Park.

The Maldon District is home to a great variety of independent shops that have their own appeal and character. In the towns of Maldon and Burnham-on-Crouch, there is an eclectic mix of specialist stores and independent retailers that sell everything from local delicacies and souvenirs, to antiques, clothes and hardware. Among these local shops, you will also find popular chain stores and banks, but these certainly do not overshadow the independent flavour of the Maldon District.

Experience our gastro menu by visiting our independent restaurants, cafés and tea rooms. You can also visit local markets in the district for excellent fresh produce, and a variety of other items. The Burnham-on-Crouch Farmer's market is certainly a highlight of the month, where a range of producers bring their fresh produce directly to the public. Check out our local page for more information about market days.
