The Smoke & Fire Festival will take place at the Promenade Park in Maldon and will celebrate the art of cooking with fire & smoke. The festival will be raising money for the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance. After the success of last year's event with over 12,000 visitors, this year is set to be even bigger. There will be over 45 award-winning street food vendors coming from across Europe, live music, four demonstration areas with special guests, pitmaster competitions, a kids zone, Essex heats of the UK Chilli Cook Off, as well as a Real Ale & Cider Festival. Entry is £2 and kids under 16 go free.

Saturday 18th August - Gates Open at 10.30am - Festival Closes at 8.30pm.

> There will be an international IBQN Sanction Pitmaster BBQ Team Competition where you can come and meet the teams and if you're lucky you might get to taste some of the best BBQ on the planet.

> The Official Essex Heats of the UK Chilli Cook-Off will take place on Saturday 18th August from 11am to 3pm and you can join the fun for just £10 a team and win a cash prize, plus a chance for £1000 at the UK Finals and a chance to compete at the World Championships in Alabama, USA.

> Beat Pricilla Queen at the Fire Pit Competition, and this BBQ Diva will be the one to beat in this one off Saturday 'BBQ Spam' cooking competition.

>'Meat the Experts' with four demonstration areas offering BBQ sessions throughout the weekend with Dr. Sweetsmoke (Char-Broil BBQ-USA #1), Marcus Bawdon (UK BBQ Mag), John Gower - Quiet Water Farm, Dingley Dell Pork, Simon Dyer (ITV BBQ Champion and Judge).

> There will be live music on Saturday and Sunday across two stages. New for 2018 is the Southern Comfort and Buffalo Trace Bourbon American stage with special guest Sick Note Steve who will be appearing on Saturday, plus Quo'd, Matildas Scoundrels, Lenotas, Tanya Piche blues band and many more.

> There will also be extreme eating contests over the weekend with the famous Smoke & Fire chilli eating & hot wing eating challenge.

> The kids can enjoy a variety of activities at the Kids Zone which includes inflatables, rides, and face painting, as well as a reptile petting zoo, circus skill workshops and roaming entertainers, making the festival a brilliant family day out.
Eat your way around the world with over forty-five award-winning street food vendors coming from across Europe which will feature a wide variety of international cuisine. You can also save money with the Festival Meat Feast Tokens which will be ideal for that family BBQ treat.

Shop until you drop and take a look at the fabulous jams, sauces, jerk, marinades, as well as the BBQ aprons, festival t-shirts, and band merchandise all available at the festival and from the merch stand. There will also be equipment galore from ugly drums, jerk pans and kettles, to table-top BBQs smokers and accessories.

Come and meet your regional and local breweries, vineyards and distilleries and there will also be a mini Real Ale & Cider Festival where you can try the festival Smoked Ale. Also in attendance to the Smoke & Fire Festival is the Artisan Drinks Pavillion which is always a crowd pleaser.

As well as parking at the Promenade Park, there are several car parks within the town centre for you to use on the day. The town centre is only a short ten minute walk from the Promenade Park. View the list of town centre car parks and location maps. All day parking (8am - 10pm) costs only £1 on weekends at the town centre car parks. There will also be a park and ride available from the Museum of Power in Langford, which is just over two miles from Maldon's town centre and Promenade Park. New for this year is the option for pre-bookable camping, either for 1, 2 and 3 nights. Each camping ticket covers x1 Tent, Campervan or Caravan, two adults and two children under 16 years, plus entry to the festival each day and a free festival programme. No discount for single occupancy. Additional adults cost £10 per night. Three nights camping on Friday, Saturday and Sunday is £60. Two nights camping on Saturday and Sunday is £40, and one night camping on the Saturday is £28.


Enjoy an evening of jazz in the beautiful setting of Maldon's Promenade Park, featuring live music from Sunchaser, Harry Funk, and Jordan Marsh & Band, with Zak Barret - sax, Rob Rickenberg - bass and Sophie Alloway - drums.

Sunchaser are a collaoration of Neil Robinson, Sam Edwards, Andy Staples and Zak Barrett. With a passion for rare groove and funky soul jazz, they play with adrenaline fuelled enthusiasm inspired by great artists such as Blue Mitchel, Stnaley Turrentine, Milt Jackson, Bobby Lyle, Grant Green and Herbie Hancock.

Harry Funk are a band of like-minded musicians whose distinctive retro funk grooves come flavoured with a unique cockney edge. They have one mission in mind... to make music as funky as possible! Known for their eclectic taste in music, from Rock to Reggae, Soul, Pop and Jazz, Harry Funk make every song their own.

Jordan Marsh is a foot stomping piano plater, singer & song writer, hitting the live circuit from the age of 17 years old. Jordan has headlined the Jools Holland Boogie Woogie Festival twice, sharing the stage as guest artist with Jools Holland and his band, Neville Dickie, Ben Waters and Axel Zwingenberger.

It will be an evening of piano-pounding Jump Blues, Swing and Boogie Woogie. Put on your dancing shoes and prepare to be delighted as Jordan Marsh and his band take you through a fantastic selection of music from artists such as Ray Charles, Fats Domino, Jerry lee Lewis, Chuck Berry and more.

Sunchaser is led by drummer Neil Robinson who is a professional touring and recording artist. As well as being a core member of the James Taylor quartet, he has performed along side well known artists such as Tom Jones, Ian Dury, Squeeze, Mica Paris, Jamelia, the Sugar Babes, and Tony Hadleigh. Harry Funk have a distinctive retro funk groove flavoured with a cockney edge. They have performed and supported artists including Gloria Estefan, Robin Gibb and more.
