  2. Riverside-Park, Burnham, May 2019
Overlooking the River Crouch, Burnham’s Riverside Park offers activity and relaxation in equal measure. It is an ideal place for a stroll, a run, a picnic or to take part in some sport.
  3. Statue of Saxon hero who fought against the Vikings, in Promenade Park
One of the highlights of a walk around Promenade Park is to walk along the extension, which stretches out into the water (or the mud) and leads to a seating area at the end. There you can also see at close hand the statue of famous Saxon leader Byrhtnoth (sometimes written as Brythnoth, Brithnoth, Britnoth or Byrthnoth) who fought back against a Viking invasion. Ultimately he lost, but his bravery in battle was commemorated in the epic Old English poem The Battle of Maldon. The battle was fought in 991AD, and following the thousand-year anniversary, The Maldon Culture Company raised around £100,0000 to commission a lasting memorial to the district's hero, and artist John Doubleday was commissioned to create a statue of the great warrior.

    4. Tommy soldier silhouette at Memorial Garden
Burnham’s Memorial Garden, known locally as the Tommy Garden, is a little haven of peace and quiet dedicated to the memories of soldiers who died in the First World War. On the corner of Chapel Road, within sight of the main war memorial, the garden provides a permanent home to the Tommy statue which was installed originally by the library to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of the Great War. The beautiful “Lest We Forget” metal bench, which features silhouettes of wartime soldiers, provides a comfortable spot to rest a while, and red cyclamens have been planted to give the area some colour.
      1. Church Spires St Marys, Octagon & All Saints Maldon March 2021
        St Mary's with Mundon
      2. Burnham-on-Crouch war memorial, pale stone obelisk
Burnham’s war memorial remembers 98 local soldiers who died in the First World War, and 27 soldiers and 10 civilians who died in the Second World War. The pale stone obelisk, which looks out over the estuary, was designed by the renowned architect R Frank Atkinson with the bronze work undertaken by Mildmay Ironworks, based in the town. The memorial, which is in the centre of a raised platform, was unveiled by Mrs Leslie and dedicated in 1921 by Anglican minister Reverend D L Williams. It is now a Grade II listed monument. Wreaths are laid here each Remembrance Sunday by local organisations.
      3. Red and green navigation buys
If you walk around Burnham-on-Crouch look out for the three large buoys that now decorate the street scene. These historic buoys were once out in the water of the Crouch estuary, helping to guide ships safetly home, but when they were replaced at sea with more modern versions that have a light, these trustworthy buoys were used to add a bit of maritime interest to the street scene. The buoys are known as Lateral Marks, which indicate the port and starboard hand sides of the safe routes that ships need to follow. They are coloured red (port hand marks) and green (starboard hand marks). You can find the green one at Burnham Yacht Harbour, and the red ones in Belvedere Road and Coronation Road.
      4. Muslims praying
Maldon Masjid – the Maldon District Islamic Cultural Association is set in a building that was once the Labour Hall. The mosque opened in 2005 and has been restored and transformed into a tranquil place for Muslim prayers. There is a separate gallery prayer area on the first floor. Educational visits and guided tours can be organised by appointment.
