Details

Wickham Place Farm Garden has evolved over generations, starting with the building of the 2 acre red brick walled garden back in 1706. Wisterias planted after its life as a cattle farm around 1950, have grown into spectacular features seen in many magazines, newspapers and TV programmes as far as Germany.

The walled garden is a small part of the 14 acres part planted and part left to wildlife. The woodland has winding paths though bluebells in May and cyclamen in September. But throughout the year its a glorious place to walk and spot some of our 80 varieties of birds.

Inside the walled garden are huge borders filled with shrubs, perennials and bulbs for year round colour. Roses, climbers and of course wisteria scramble up the walls and drip over the many gateways and paths.

Nearby is the last remaining wooden, trestle railway viaduct in the country. Just a 10 minute stroll away it crosses the River Blackwater where you may be lucky to spot kingfishers.

Opening details

Please note, the garden is not open for any public open days.

We are only open for pre-booked group visits.

Prices

We recommend a £8.00 pp package to include entrance fee, coffee/tea/soft drink & slice of cake. Entrance is £5.00 pp without refreshments. During the 'welcome talk’ information sheets/maps are provided. May is the best time to see the wisterias but groups are welcome during any month. Proceeds from visits go to Farleigh Hospice.

Allow 1 ½ - 2 hours average visit but it is suggested this is left fairly flexible until you arrive (the weather can play an important part!).

Plants for sale. A small nursery area with unusual plants for sale at sensible prices. Most are propagated from plants grown in the garden.

Parking. Ample parking for cars & mini buses. Large coaches drop off at the gate and park about 1/4 mile away.

If you are planning a whole day out and would like information on other gardens, interesting places, pubs for lunch, etc.
