The physiology of aviation was not greatly known at the start of the Great War, this will have had a contributory effect on the high number of aeroplane crashes. What were the physical effects of altitude and cold? How did the medical services decide that a flyer was indeed fit to fly? What were the medical services available and how did they change when the RAF became an independent service?What medical services were available on aerodromes? What medical facilities were available for recovery after injury?

    A12 Chelmsford bypass. Take A414 turnoff signposted Danbury. Travel through Danbury to Oak Corner roundabout, travel straight over. Take 1st turning right and travel through Cock Clarks Village. The aerodrome entrance is on the right approx one mile outside the village.
