Promenade Park

Welcome to Promenade Park in Maldon, the largest waterside park in Essex, providing a fun-filled, family friendly destination all year round with amazing events and activities throughout the year. Nestled between the historic high street and Blackwater Estuary, the park features a water Splash Park, beach huts and deckchairs for hire, sandpits, galleon play ship and aerial zip-wire, model boating and crabbing lake as well as cafe kiosks and picnic areas. There's a packed programme of events and activities planned each year, or just come and enjoy the peaceful walks and beautiful sea views. 

About us

The park was opened in 1895 to provide the people of Maldon and the surrounding areas with a valuable amenity and public space. 'The Prom' as it is has become known locally, is a great place to walk, sit or play and stopping to watch the activity on the river always makes for an interesting family day out.

Our Facilities

• Ornamental lake with fountains, wildlife, seating and an adjoining sand play area.

• Outdoor theatre and open air stage suitable for hosting theatrical productions and concerts.

• Kids Splash Park open during the summer (dependent on weather conditions).

• Children’s play areas including a galleon play ship, zip-wire, aerial runway and two large sand pits.

• Model boating and crabbing lake.

• Riverside walks offering views of the estuary and its abundant wildlife.

• Beach huts and deckchairs which can be hired and dedicated picnic areas with picnic tables.

• Six separate retail outlets for refreshments and other merchandise.

• Public gardens with pergolas, shrub borders, Anglia in Bloom award winning drought garden, three dimensional carpet bedding displays and many floral borders.

• Sports pitches (football, cricket, tennis courts, netball and basketball) and changing rooms.

• Skateboarding and BMX areas

• Wildlife garden and toddler water and sand play area.

• Three separate toilet blocks, including disabled facilities and Changing Places toilet accessed by radar key.

• Car parking (pay and display), designated disabled parking spaces, coach park and drop-off point.

• Easy access via public transport on he 31, 331, 332, 75, 95, 288 bus routes. The nearest bus stop is at the entrance gates on Mill Road (Stop ID: esxgjamt).

Admission to the park is free although some facilities, such as the Splash Park, are chargeable.
