About

Sculpt Gallery is one of only a handful of art galleries in the UK specialising in contemporary British sculpture and studio ceramics. Founded in 2012 by Debra Blik, the gallery programme showcases work by a select stable of established and emerging artists, with an emphasis on East Anglian talent.

Taking advantage of its rural setting, the gardens surrounding the gallery also display several monumental sculptures by international sculptor Maurice Blik, who lives and works on site.Maurice Blik is Sculpt Gallery's principal artist, with the gallery holding a permanent collection of his figurative bronze sculptures.

The themes of hope, optimism and belief in the future are intrinsic to Blik's work. His figurative forms convey an irrepressible joy of life, emerging to confront the viewer with an energy that is both startling and inspiring. Born in Amsterdam, Holland in 1939 and having survived Bergen-Belsen concentration camp as a child, Maurice Blik arrived in the UK aged seven with two surviving female members of his family. The ability to come to terms with this and to confront the face of humanity that he had witnessed, found a voice in the passionate and exquisite sculpture he began to produce in the late 1980s.

Maurice Blik has exhibited extensively in the UK and throughout the USA and his work is in many public and private collections in the UK, Europe and the USA and he has undertaken a number of major commissions. He is a Past President of the Royal Society of Sculptors (PPRSS). He reveals his extraordinary life-story in previously undocumented detail, in his illustrated artobiography, The Art of Survival, published in January 2022 by Heavy Press.iNK.

Other local artists exhibited at the gallery include Tim Corke, Tobias Ford, Gus Farnes, ‎Moira Goodall, Graham High and Lucy Lutyens.
