  1. Boats at Tollesbury, James Crisp
    SALTMARSH COAST WALKING FESTIVAL - 3.4 miles. This spectacular walk explores the historic village of Tollesbury with its bustling marina, historic lightvessel and interesting centre. Passing wildlife-rich saltmarshes, traditional sail lofts, an open-air lido and a village lock-up, this slightly longer walk is packed with sights.
  2. Boats moored on a wooden pontoon with deep blue sky and sea, Maylandsea
    3 miles. Explore a tucked-away nature reserve that's famous for its butterflies and take in the lovely views from the seawall of Lawling Creek, with its yachts, barges and birdlife.
  3. Around Maldon Wick nature reserve
    2.6 miles. This short Walk it Local route is an easy stroll starting close to Maldon town centre, but taking in the lovely Maldon Wick Nature Reserve and part of the disused railway line. Depending on the season you might see rare butterflies, intriguing glow worms, dragonflies, spring primroses and violets.
  4. Seawall at Heybridge, James Crisp
    SALTMARSH COAST WALKING FESTIVAL - 3.58 miles. A slightly longer stroll in the Walk it Local collection, but worth the effort, taking in bustling Heybridge Basin with its boats, sea-lock, water birds and pubs, the seawall with estuary views back across to Maldon, and the historic canal towpath and sea-lock. Plenty of places to eat and drink en route.
  5. Around Three Villages walk
    2.96 miles. This walk explores three pretty villages in the north of the district - Wickham Bishops, Little Braxted and Great Totham. Taking in tree-lined lanes and footpaths, this gently undulating walk is a great introduction to this part of the district, which has many possibilities for longer walks as well.
  6. Bradwell fields
    SALTMARSH COAST WALKING FESTIVAL - 3 miles. This short walk around Bradwell-on-Sea and Bradwell Waterside, part of the Walk it Local collection, takes in traditional country pubs, a historic church, a thriving marina and the saltmarsh coast, including views of the Ross Revenge, once the home of pirate station Radio Caroline.
  7. Burnham marina
    SALTMARSH COAST WALKING FESTIVAL - 3.5 miles. This short Walk it Local route offers a delightful stroll around the yachting centre of Burnham-on-Crouch and nearby Creeksea, taking in river views along the seawall, birdlife, vineyards and historic buildings, with plenty of refreshment stops along the way.
  8. Walking route around Southminster
    2.36 miles. This walk explores the town of Southminster from its historic church and thatched cottages to the Jubilee Woodland and sculpture park and modern microbrewery. With a walk time of around an hour, and no steps or stiles to contend with, this is an attractive stroll with plenty of interest.
  9. Lanes around Little Braxted
    3.3 miles. The quiet lanes around Little Braxted make a pleasant walk with plenty to explore along the way, including a richly decorated Grade I listed church, fine old buildings with decorative chimneys and an unusual miniature railway at Braxted Bakery, where you can also stop for refreshments.

    SALTMARSH COAST WALKING FESTIVAL - 2.8 miles. Explore the charming village of Goldhanger where you can see remains from Iron Age, Saxon and Roman times, an 11th century church and a 100-year-old village pump. Along the seawall you will see a host of wading birds and tiny coves once used by smugglers. Two great pubs complete the walk.

    2.7 miles. This undulating walk explores the pretty village of Woodham Walter and its nearby woodland, known as The Wilderness, plus a visit to the scenic Hoe Mill Lock with its canal boats and wildlife.

    2.73 miles. This gentle walk lets you explore Tillingham, with its pretty village green lined with weatherboarded cottages, and the wide-open expanses of the surrounding Dengie farmland. There's a historic church to investigate, and two historic local pubs serving real ale for a pitstop along the way.

    3.1 miles. This walk has a bit of everything – the river Crouch, boats galore, an historic pub and farmland. All within the confines of the village of North Fambridge. Enjoy a walk along the seawall, with houseboats, barges and commercial river traffic, and the wildlife-rich wetlands.
