The Maeldune Trust are the proud custodians of the famous Maldon Embroidery on display at The Maeldune Heritage Centre. This magnificent work of art, 42 feet long and alive with vibrant colour and design celebrates the 100 years since the Battle of Maldon in 991.
The Maeldune Heritage Centre has fascinating displays of local history, interesting historial photographic and video material organised by The Maldon Society and an oral listening station for visitors to use with contributions from over 50 local people to provide memories of all sorts of life in the town. A photomontage and information booklet is available for visitors to browse about the history of The Pride of Maldon Rose and how it links with The Maldon Embroidery. Group bookings and individual talks on The Maldon Embroidery and local history arranged on request. 2021 is the 30th anniversary of the making of The Maldon Embroidery when special events will be arranged at the Centre to celebrate.
There is an exciting exhibition programme throughout the year to celebrate and promote our local artists. The programme showcases an eclectic mix of painting, photographic, textile art, artisan pottery, mixed media works and other crafts.
The gift shop showcases the talent of local artists and craftspeople including the work of members of the Essex Guild of Craftsmen reflecting superb quality and uniqueness of the items on sale. The Maeldune Heritage Centre also stocks local preserves and chutneys) Maldon Soap (including souvenir soap of The Maldon Rose), books (many by local authors) and Maldon Salt.
