About

St James, Dengie is a small parish church serving the rural villages of Asheldham and Dengie . It is served by a small band of loyal PCC members and parishioners – whose focus is to unite the community and church. The church is part of a joint benefice serving Bradwell-on-Sea, Dengie and Asheldham, St Lawrence and Tillingham.

The Grade II listed church building dates back to the 14th century, but the Nave walls may be even earlier from Saxon times, and remains of Roman bricks can be seen. The porch was added during a Victorian refurbishment. The church has an ornately carved reredos, and some interesting brasses now mounted on the walls. Please note there are no toilet facilities and no nearby public facilities.
