Situated at one of the highest points in Tolleshunt Major, next to the private residence of Beckingham Hall, the grounds command expansive views out across the marshland and Blackwater Estuary. A serene spot for contemplation.

There are three bells, the first uninscribed but probably pre-Reformation, the second by Thomas Gardiner of Sudbury, 1726, and the third late C14, inscribed 'Vox Edwardii sonet in Aure Dei'.The church is part of the Blackwater Benefice.

In the churchyard is a Commonwealth War Grave to Sgt Willie Redgewell of the 1st Essex Yeomanry, who died in 1917 aged 27, and previously lived in the village.
