About

The 100 year old Edwardian Promenade park is the pride of Maldon and one of the largest waterside parks in Essex. Featuring an ornamental lake, Maldon Splash Park, Maldon Beach Huts, sand pits, several play areas including a galleon play ship and aerial zip-wire, and picnic areas.

Promenade Park hosts lots of different events throughout the year and offers stunning river views over the Blackwater Estuary and Hythe Quay, making it a popular destination for over 300,000 visitors a year from across the East of England.

Promenade Park was opened to the public on 26 June 1895 by the then Mayor (and local historian), Mr Edward Fitch. The Marine Lake near Hythe Quay was opened by Lady Rayleigh later on in 1905.

Most of the Edwardian design remains today with public gardens, shelters and picturesque lines of Lime and Horse Chestnut trees planted in 1895. More recently, a 'horseshoe' of Memorial Trees were planted in memory of those who were lost during the Second World War.

The park features a great selection of facilities to enjoy throughout the year, with our fan favourite Splash Park and Beach Huts being open during the summer months (booking details can be found on visitmaldondistrict.co.uk/prompark).

There is still more to enjoy including fountains, picnic and play areas, model boating and crabbing lakes, maze, amphitheater, sand pit play area, zip-wire, tennis courts, BMX and Skate park areas, and a great selection of privately run refreshment kiosks offering hot or cold drinks and snacks throughout the year.

More recent additions to the park include the Adventure Golf Course and Zoo. More information can be found about these attractions at visitmaldondistrict.co.uk/prompark.
